It's Annoying How Sleep Deprivation Makes Thinking Harder

This week, I was sleep deprived. I had some late nights at work and I had some early mornings at the gym. I was definitely dumber. I must have said “Sorry, I’m retarded” about 15 times. That makes coding way harder. After sleeping about ten hours last night, I looked up why we are more idiotic on less sleep. This study details the problem:

People who are operating with a sleep debt are less efficient, and this inefficiency is most noticeable when the circadian cycle is at its lowest ebb. Among the common consequences of a large sleep debt are attentional lapses, reduced short-term memory capacity, impaired judgment and the occurrence of “microsleeps.”

I know, it’s obvious. But dammit it’s annoying. Anyway, time for a microsleep.
